Rhododendron prunifolium

One of the latest-blooming native azaleas. Produces an abundance of orange to red tubular flowers that bloom mid to late summer. Flowers are 2 inches long with stamens that project themselves long past the flowers. Superior nectar source for swallowtail butterflies and hummingbirds. Shiny green leaves turn plum-colored in the fall months.

Thrives in partial sun in moist draining soil with high acidity.
