Musa basjoo 

This variety of red Banana originally hails from the Ryuku Islands near Japan and features large, wide leaves.

Musa are a large genus of flowering trees commonly found south of the equator in many countries. They're grown in the US ornamentally for lush, tropical looking foliage. They love heat and full sun and grow fast- a single tree can grow to over 8 feet tall in one growing season! They make a great addition to your pots, but can also be planted in the ground.

They can be overwintered indoors. To do so, simply remove the drooping/dying foliage and place in a cool room with some light and water once every 3 weeks. Once the risk of spring frost has passed, they can be moved back outside. This variety is hardy to zones 5-10.
