Itea virginica

Virginia Sweetspire is considered semi-deciduous although it will remain evergreen in warmer climates with mild winters. The graceful arching branches create visually soft mounded shrubs that burst forth in a profusion of 4 inch long white bottlebrush blooms in late spring and early summer.  Hummingbirds, butterflies and bees will flock to the long-lasting blooms.

Preferring moist soil, Virginia Sweetspire does well in rain gardens or mass planted as a low, pleasant hedge or along stream banks. The usually deep green foliage turns brilliant orange and red in the fall and the color persists well into winter.

Very low maintenance, this shrub only needs room to spread as it tends to be as wide as it is tall - usually between 3 and 10 feet.

Comes to you 12'-18' tall in a 2 gallon pot

*Please note: Our native plants are field-grown and untreated with pesticides or fertilizers (how it should be!) Because of this, some varieties may show spots, browning or holes in the foliage during the fall months. Our plants have been organically treated if needed and are healthy and strong.
