Mertensia virginica

Virginia Bluebells are a very popular, herbaceous perennial with attractive clumps of green leaves and nodding clusters of pink buds that open into light blue trumpet-shaped flowers that rise from tall stems.

Bees, especially female Bumblebees that fly in early spring, will often be seen visiting the flowers. Only the largest bees have the ability to push their way up the tube. The real champions of bluebell pollination are butterflies and moths. Perfect to mass plant in borders or to add to flower beds to get that cottage garden look. Expect blooms from mid spring until mid summer.
