Vinca minor 'Ralph Shugert'

Commonly called Lesser Periwinkle, this low maintenance, easy to grow perennial has an evergreen trailing habit that makes it a perfect choice for a groundcover. Foliage is glossy green with white edging and flowers are a pretty violet-blue. Expect blooms from mid-spring to early summer, but they may intermittently flower throughout summer and into fall.

Plant in full sun to part shade with average, well-drained soil. Vinca's water needs are average and they can even tolerate dry soil and become drought tolerant. A forgiving groundcover, it is deer and rabbit resistant. 'Ralph Shugert' is less invasive than some of the other Vinca varieties and was the recipient of the Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society. 

An excellent choice as a groundcover, planting on banks and slopes, as an underplanting for shrubs and even as a cover for spring bulbs. Plant with Solomon's Seal, Lily of the Valley and Asarum as companions for the garden.
