Veronica spicata 'Purplegum Candles'

Commonly known as Spike Speedwell, this herbaceous perennial is a bushy, clump forming variety that offers tiny, deep purple-blue star-shaped flowers. Flowers bloom on spikes above foliage and start from the base upward. Expect blooms from early to late summer.  

Plant in full sun with medium moisture, well-drained soil. Remove spent blooms to encourage new flowers. Makes an excellent cut flower. Deer and rabbit resistant as well as attractive to butterflies. 

Best when planted in groups, 'Purple Candles' is a great choice for the edges of beds, in cottage and coastal gardens and in containers. Plant with Daylilies, Lady's Mantle, Shasta Daisy and Asclepias as companions.
