Commonly called Creeping Phlox, Phlox stolonifera is a wonderful woodland phlox that loves shade and provides immense color in the garden during late March and April, and sometimes even through mid May. Native to the northeast US, it grows to about 3" tall with flower stems that rise another 3" above that, and produce wonderful, small, purple sweet smelling flowers. Remains as a nice groundcover throughout the remainder of the year. Very attractive to pollinators.
