Geranium maculatum, commonly called wild geranium or spotted cranesbill, is a hardy perennial native to North America. It features delicate, five-petaled lavender-pink blooms from late spring to early summer, with attractive lobed foliage that turns reddish in fall. This plant thrives in woodland gardens, naturalized areas, or shaded borders, attracting pollinators like bees and butterflies.

To grow Geranium maculatum, choose a location with partial shade to full sun and moist, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. While it tolerates a range of soil types, consistent moisture encourages the healthiest growth. Plant in spring or fall, spacing clumps 12–18 inches apart. Mulching helps retain soil moisture and suppress weeds. Once established, it is low-maintenance, requiring only occasional watering during drought. Deadheading can extend bloom time, and dividing every few years rejuvenates plants. Its adaptability and charm make it a versatile choice for natural, pollinator-friendly gardens.
