Digitalis × mertonensis

Commonly known as Strawberry Foxglove, this plant is an architecturally eye-catching biennial or short-lived perennial. It produces beautiful tall spires of coppery rose tubular flowers with deep maroon or purple spots on the throat. A reliable bloomer, you can expect flowers from late spring to summer.

Plant in full sun to partial shade with well drained soil. Prefers a partial shade location with humous-rich soil, but will do ok in a full sun location. Hummingbirds are attracted to the tubular flowers and will hover to collect its nectar. Birds are also attracted to the seed heads left in fall. Deer and rabbit resistant as well as urban pollutant tolerant.  Digitalis x mertonensis makes an excellent cut flower.

For best visual interest, plant multiple Digitalis in the same area. Easy to grow in beds, borders and naturalized areas. An excellent choice for woodland, city  and informal cottage gardens. Plant with Peonys, Salvia and Allium as companions in the garden bed.

Digitalis is extremely toxic to humans and pets. Be sure to plant in areas that are out of reach of pets and kids, and wash hands after handling.

Arrives to you in a quart-sized container, as shown in photo 4.
