Double impatiens (Impatiens walleriana hybrids) are prized for their lush, rose-like blooms that come in a wide range of vibrant colors, including pink, red, white, and lavender. These shade-loving annuals bring long-lasting color to garden beds, containers, and hanging baskets. Unlike standard impatiens, double impatiens have layers of petals that give them a fuller, more ornamental appearance.

To grow double impatiens successfully, choose a location with partial to full shade and well-draining, moist soil enriched with organic matter. These plants do not tolerate direct, hot sun or dry conditions. Water regularly, keeping the soil consistently damp but not soggy. Apply a balanced liquid fertilizer every two to three weeks to encourage steady blooming. Deadheading isn’t necessary, as the plants self-clean spent blooms. In zones 10–11, they can be grown as perennials, but in colder areas, treat them as annuals or overwinter indoors in containers for reuse the following year.
