Fothergilla gardenii ‘Blue Shadow

Also known as Witch Alder, the fragrant early spring blooms are easily the least interesting feature of this shade garden stunner. Foliage emerges in spring as deep green leathery leaves that develop an intense powdery blue shimmer through the summer before winding down into an explosion of orange, red and yellow in the fall.

A beneficial native from the Appalachians, the gardenii varieties of Fothergilla multiply through suckers and naturalize easily. While the early spring blooms give pollinators like butterflies and birds a place to play, the intensely colored foliage is reportedly of little interest to snack seeking deer.

Fothergilla is forgiving with both soil and sunlight but if you have a loamy area beneath dappled sunlight to plant these beauties, you will be in for quite the show!

Comes to you in 3 gallon pot
