Clethra alnifolia 'Hummingbird'

Also called summersweet, ‘Hummingbird’ is a delightful shrub that will attract all of your favorite visitors to your yard, including hummingbirds, bees and butterflies. This popular pollinator naturalizes easily but can be kept neat with occasional pruning and sucker removal. Clethra varieties grow wild in the eastern US from Maine to northern Florida and is a highly beneficial shrub.

Clethra prefers wetter than average soil and is a great selection for rain gardens. Pretty forgiving when it comes to sunlight, these do best in part shade but can tolerate full sun to heavy shade.

On the smaller side for the species, Hummingbird is a slow growing shrub that features lush foliage with sweetly scented, delicate white bottlebrush flowers from middle to end of summer.  Arrives to you in a 3 gallon-sized pot, as shown in photo 2.
