Carex plantaginea

Commonly known as seersucker sedge, this North American native is one of the most ornamental of the woodland sedges. Leaves are a striking lime green color with a puckered surface. Reddish-purple flowers spikes appear in mid-spring. Flowers are attractive to native bees and pollinators.

Often used as a groundcover or bordering woodland trails. Great when used for erosion control. Very deer resistant. Various insects feed on the foliage of sedges (Carex spp.), including the caterpillars of the woodland butterfly, Satyrodes appalachia (Appalachian Brown). The seeds of sedges are an attractive source of food to various kinds of birds – for woodland sedges, this would include Wild Turkey and the chicks of Ruffed Grouse.

Arrives to you in a 1 gallon pot.
