Acorus gramineus 'Ogon'

Commonly known as grassy-leaved sweet flag, it gets its name from the foliage that is sweetly fragrant when brushed against or bruised. 'Ogon' is a dwarf variety that offers thin grass-like leaf blades that grow from 6-12" tall. The foliage is green and yellow striped, but presents mostly as yellow. Insignificant yellow-green flowers are tiny and appear on sedge-like flower spikes from spring to early summer (June-July).

Acorus loves medium to wet soil conditions and can do very well in a water or bog garden setting. Do not let the soil dry out or leaf scorching/withering can occur. An excellent choice for planting as erosion control on water banks. This low maintenance perennial is a great addition when mass planted as a ground cover for a water garden, in the wetlands or rock gardens.

Companion plants that work well with 'Ogon' are Lobelia, Heuchera, Iris, Itea and Fothergilla.
