Monarda bradburiana, commonly known as eastern beebalm or Bradbury’s monarda, is a native perennial wildflower found primarily in the central and southeastern United States. Belonging to the mint family, it features square stems, aromatic foliage, and clusters of pale pink to lavender flowers with purple spots, blooming in late spring to early summer. The flowers are highly attractive to bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds, making it a valuable plant for pollinator gardens. Unlike some other monarda species, M. bradburiana is more compact and less aggressive, growing about 1 to 2 feet tall. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and tolerates a range of soil types, including dry, rocky, or sandy conditions. Its drought resistance and deer tolerance make it a low-maintenance option for native plant landscapes, prairies, or meadows. Beyond its ornamental value, the plant also has a history of traditional medicinal use by Indigenous peoples.
