Aucuba japonica 'Rozannie'

Aucuba Rozanne, also known as Japanese laurel, is a striking evergreen shrub valued for its bold, glossy foliage and year-round interest. Its large, leathery leaves are splashed with bright golden-yellow variegation, creating a cheerful contrast in shaded parts of the garden. Growing 4–6 feet tall and wide, it develops a dense, bushy habit that makes it an excellent choice for hedges, foundation plantings, or woodland gardens. In spring, female plants may produce small clusters of red berries if a male pollinator is nearby, adding ornamental appeal and food for birds.

To grow Aucuba Rozanne, choose a location with partial to full shade, as too much sun can scorch the foliage. It prefers moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil but is tolerant of a variety of conditions, including urban pollution. Water regularly during establishment, then only in prolonged dry spells. Pruning in spring helps maintain its shape, ensuring this low-maintenance shrub remains vibrant and attractive.
