Penstemon digitalis, also known as foxglove beardtongue, is a hardy perennial native to North America. It produces upright stems topped with tubular, white to pale-pink blooms in late spring to early summer, often with a blush of lavender. The flowers attract hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies, while its dark green to burgundy-tinged foliage adds ornamental interest. This plant also provides excellent structure in perennial borders and native plant gardens.

To grow Penstemon digitalis, choose a location in full sun to light shade with well-drained soil. It tolerates a range of soil types, including clay, and is drought-tolerant once established. Plant in spring or fall, spacing 18–24 inches apart. Avoid overly rich soil, which can cause floppy growth. Deadheading encourages a tidy appearance, though leaving some seed heads can benefit birds. Minimal care is needed, making it an ideal, low-maintenance choice for pollinator-friendly and native landscapes.
