Carex appalachica

Commonly known as Appalachian Sedge, this native grass has finely textured green blades that grow in dense mounded tufts and are perfect for the shaded areas of your garden. Leaves are 12-18" long, but plants are only 6" tall, which allows this sedge to dramatically arch on the ground. Inconspicuous flowers appear in late spring above the grassy leaves, providing nectar for native insects.

Plant in full sun to part shade as this grass will do well in shady woodland areas. Deer resistant and attractive to butterflies, this sedge is perfect for helping with erosion control.

Wonderful when mass planted along paths or as a groundcover. Also a great option at the front of borders, in rock gardens and in containers. Combinations of Aquilegia, Aster divericatus, Iris and Tiarella all make excellent companion plantings.

Native to North America.

Arrives to you in a quart-sized pot, as shown in photo 3.
