Commonly called the Lenten Rose or Winter Rose, ‘Whirlwind Romance’ is a showy, evergreen hellebore prized for its dramatic winter to early spring display. It produces large, fully double flowers in soft blush pink with lighter inner petals and deeper pink edging. Layered petals give a ruffled, rose-like appearance, and blooms typically measure about 2½–3 inches wide. 

Hellebores are early-blooming, cold-tolerant perennials that flower from late winter into early spring. Most are evergreen and retain their foliage through winter in mild to cold climates. While many traditional hellebores have nodding flowers, double-flowered selections like ‘Whirlwind Romance’ tend to hold their blooms more openly, making the intricate petal form easier to appreciate.

Hellebores have become increasingly popular for cut flowers and floral installations due to their long-lasting blooms. They prefer partial to full shade and humus-rich, well-drained soil. ‘Whirlwind Romance’ is an excellent choice for shade gardens, woodland borders, containers, and underplanting shrubs or roses. It pairs beautifully with Heuchera, Brunnera, Galanthus, Narcissus, and Crocus, and is especially striking when planted in groups for a luxurious late-winter display.
