Zizia aurea (Golden Alexander)

Commonly known as golden Alexander, this showy perennial features bright yellow, flat topped clusters of tiny flowers. Plant in full sun to part shade and expect blooms in your garden in late spring (May - June).

Mass plant zizia in open woodland and prairie areas, as well as in native plant and rain gardens. A great cut flower, the golden Alexander will be especially attractive to butterflies. This specific genus is named after German botanist Johann Baptist Ziz (1829). Native from eastern Canada to the southern United States.
