Viola 'Celestial Northern Lights'

This perennial viola variety is generally more tolerant of summer heat and a little hardier than their large-flowered cousins. This low growing evergreen perennial produces large purple flowers with yellow and orange faces. It's clumps of attractive dark green leaves can spread to make an attractive groundcover. Expect blooms from spring through to early summer (May - September) and then again in fall.

Plant in part shade to full shade locations with moisture retentive, well-drained soils. Does not tolerate drought. Trim plants back in June to rejuvenate the foliage.

These are versatile plants, useful for edging, in the rock garden, and especially in containers or window boxes. Superb companions to spring-flowering bulbs, such as Tulips and Narcissus.
