Salix chaenomeloides

Commonly called ‘giant pussy willow,’ Winter Glory features striking, large silvery catkins that bloom in early spring, sometimes as early as February. The male catkins start to sprout yellow pistils in late spring, making this the perfect choice for large pollinator gardens.

From early spring through summer the reddish stems are covered in large green leaves that have a silky texture underneath and in the fall, start to produce scarlet red-flower buds that prepare for the giant blooms as early as February in most areas.

Easy to grow in full sun and moist soil, be sure to give these guys plenty of room as they can reach 15-20 feet in both height and spread! Besides providing cover for native wildlife and food for the birds and butterflies, the stems make great long-lasting interest in cut flower arrangements.

Arrives to you in a 1- gallon pot, as shown in photo 5.
