Cornus sericea

This red twig Dogwood is one of the most adaptable deciduous shrubs and among the easiest to naturalize. New growth is where you will see the distinctive red color and many gardeners prefer to prune this beauty liberally in the spring to maximize that gorgeous new growth.

Best planted in very moist, well-draining soil, it will tolerate more bog-like conditions and makes the perfect specimen for rain gardens. If you prefer to keep yours tidy, remove suckers as soon as they appear as the natural growth habit resembles a thicket.

In late spring, dense clusters of white blooms appear and develop into pea-sized white berries that birds adore. Foliage in the fall turns to fiery red and orange before dropping and leaving behind striking red upright branches.

Comes to you in a 2 gallon pot.
