Penstemon x mexicali

Commonly called Beardtongue, penstemon is a large group of flowering herbaceous perennials that are mainly native or cultivated to the eastern half of the United States and a large portion of North America in general. Often rated as one of the best pollinators, Penstemon feature large flower spikes covered with small, tubular flowers that bloom in a variety of colors in spring and early summer. They are popular with pollinators due to their tubular shape; pollinators with long tongues can easily reach and harvest the nectar.  Penstemon do well in dry, hot settings, but can thrive in nearly any soil condition so long as they are getting sun.

'Red Rocks' is a cultivated variety of penstemon. It grows to 24" tall and 16" wide. Great for a second row layer in a pollinator bed. It features hot pink/red tubular flowers atop a wispy foliage that remains all year and past frost. It will provide great foliage interest in your garden, as well as be an incredibly beneficial pollinator. Strong attractor of hummingbirds and long-tongued bees, like bumblebees and honeybees.

Pairs well with: Asclepias tuberosa, rudbeckia, monarda, eupatorium and solidago.

Arrives to you in a gallon-sized container.
