Muhlenbergia capillaris

Commonly known as pink muhlygrass or pink hair grass, this perennial grass is known for its fall "clouds" of flowers. Pink to pinkish-red, airy, flower plumes arrive in fall (September - November) and put on a spectacular show atop dark green wiry foliage.  Tan seed pods are attractive in winter.

Plant in full sun to part shade with dry to average moisture soil. Tolerant of heat and drought, but generally does best with consistent waterings. The genus name comes from a Lutheran pastor from Pennsylvania, Gotthilf Henry Ernest Muhlenberg (1753-1815), who was an amateur botanist.
