Gymnocladus dioicus

Kentucky Coffeetree, or Coffeetree is a native deciduous tree commonly found in the southern states of the eastern US. It can sometimes be found as far north as Canada. Its a rather large native tree, growing to 60-80 feet tall and 50 feet wide. It provides light shade in most applications and has flowers that appear in spring which offer nectar to pollinators. Tree puts off fabulous fall yellow color.

It's called Coffeetree, due to its brown seed pods that appear in fall months. Years ago, Native Americans would harvest the seed pods and roast them as a coffee substitute. Brewed 'coffee' resembles the taste of coffee but does not have caffeine.

Plant coffeetree in full sun in a medium moisture area. Relatively low maintenance and disease free. Arrives to you in a 2 gallon pot, 2-3' tall.
