Ginkgo biloba 'Autumn Gold'

Also known as the maidenhair tree, the Ginkgo tree hails from China and is one of the few identifiable pre-historic deciduous trees. Autumn Fire is genetically male and does not fruit which is preferable since the fruit of the female Ginkgo is notoriously messy and foul-smelling.

The leaves are distinctively fan-shaped dual-lobed green foliage that turns golden yellow in the fall. When the leaves do finally drop, they do so quickly and often form a golden carpet beneath the canopy. Mature height is generally 40-50 feet tall with a 25-30 foot spread. These are slow growers and go through periods of awkward sparse growth in the early years after planting.
