Croton plants (Codiaeum variegatum) are known for their vibrant, multicolored foliage in shades of red, yellow, orange, and green, making them a striking addition to indoor spaces. Native to tropical regions, crotons thrive in warm, humid environments and require bright, indirect light to maintain their bold colors. Direct sunlight is beneficial but should be limited to avoid leaf burn. These plants prefer consistently moist, well-draining soil—water when the top inch feels dry, but avoid overwatering. They’re sensitive to temperature changes and drafts, so keep them in a stable environment between 60–85°F. High humidity helps prevent leaf drop, so misting or using a humidity tray can be helpful. Crotons benefit from monthly feeding with a balanced houseplant fertilizer during the growing season (spring and summer). While they can be finicky at first, with the right care and environment, croton plants reward you with stunning, colorful foliage that livens up any room.
