Quercus velutina

A strong, long-lived native tree thats an excellent shade tree for large yards.

Features: Black oaks are noted for their green leaves that are deeply lobed and give way to fabulous yellow and orange color in the fall. It's bark is smoother than other oak trees. In spring, catkins give way to acorns that are apparent for the remainder of the year and into winter. Tree grows large to over 70 feet tall over time.

Benefits: Provides an abundance of roosting space for dozens of species of native birds and other animals. Acorns are a food source for squirrels, mice, deer and turkeys. fallen leaves provide nutrients for garden and yard soil as they decompose over tim.

Planting: Plant in an open area in full sun as tree may grow quite large over time.

Available in a sapling size measuring approx. 12" tall.
