Alcea rosea 'Nigra'

Part of the hollyhock family, this easy care perennial features tall stately flowers. The dark maroon, almost black blooms provide a unique contrast to the lush green foliage. Blooms abundantly throughout summer (July - August).

'Nigra' reaches 5-8' tall and forms numerous stalks from the base instead of the familiar single stalk. Hollyhocks are mostly biennials or short-lived perennials, and will reseed themselves. They are also black walnut tolerant.

Plant in full sun with medium moisture, well-drained soil. Try growing them in the cottage garden style by planting them up against a wall or picket fence. Provides excellent architectural height and stature in border backgrounds. Companions in the garden include Roses, Delphinium, Foxglove and Peonies.

Arrives to you in a quart-sized container, as shown in photo 3.
