 Doellingeria umbellata

'Flat-topped'  is one of the taller forms Aster that produces clusters of dainty daisy-like blooms in the late summer and early fall. Unlike the better known purple Asters, this variety does well in shaded spots and prefers moist well-draining soil. The stems on this beauty are woody and more sparsely situated than the traditional mounding types and adds a wistful wildflower vibe to your pollinator garden.

Perfect for naturalizing, the 'Flat-Topped' Aster needs very little maintenance although pruning in early spring will promote bushier growth over time. Because it is rhizomatous, garden-kept specimens will need periodic division. The understated beauty of this variety belies its benefits to late season pollinators and is a great food source for migrating butterflies.

Available in quarts and gallons as shown in photos 4 and 5.
